Tensile structure for Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta - LUMSA

“The focus of the project is the scenography, a funnel-shaped shading structure, designed by Vittorio Petrucci and built by Canobbio Textile Engineering, which protects the elliptical void of the building, requested by the client to protect the internal court and transform it into a protected space, functional both accommodating and serving as a meeting place for students.” Therefore, in addition to making the open space usable also during summer for the usual learning activities, an additional space was created for potential cultural events. White translucent in colour, the shading tensile structure was placed inside the elliptical cavity of the covering and is secured by means of suitable plates to the upper curb of the latter. At the bottom of the cone there is a steel ring which strecthes the cover toward the centre of the court, stabilising the membrane in case of wind or harsh weather conditions. Greater stability is also provided by several cables attached to this central ring and secured to the ground to a steel cylinder.”
