We are proud to announce that we have completed and tested in record time the innovative pressostatic cover designed for Rari Nantes Camogli 1978, historical and glorious water polo club in Liguria (Italy).

In the residential area of Bracciano (Rome), GV Sporting Srl is completing a sports center that will include a swimming pool, gymnasium, children’s play area, two outdoor and four indoor padel courts with the innovative Glulampadel structure.

GV Sporting wanted a laminated wood structure from Canobbio Textile Engineering Srl because it was looking for quality, experience and expertise. The major investment required a short timeline without compromising the quality and durability of the structure.

The four padel courts are covered with a glulam structure with dimensions of 26 m wide by 52 m long and a height of 14 m; the significant height of the structure is a consequence of the need to have at least 7 m above the playing fields toward the long side.

The structure consists of 9 arches made of spruce laminated timber; on the short sides there is aninnovative structure speciallyshaped to allow for the heights required for the game (called “Baraccatura Plus”) made of square-profile laminated timber, with modified and optimized vertical pillars and stiffening buttresses.

The roof consists of a double PVC membrane with the aim of reducing heat loss and making the structure “energy saving” and reducing the inconvenience of internal condensation to almost zero.

The roofing membrane was provided with the central skylight to provide more interior brightness during sunny days. Double-track sliding lap cloths are provided along the perimeter of the roof to allow natural ventilation in the summer season.

It is an optimal solution for easily and relatively inexpensively covering sports and industrial facilities, as it is extremely durable and easy to install.

What are the features and advantages of a pressostatic cover?

One of the main features of these structures is the versatility of the material used, PVC (polyvinyl chloride).

PVC is a plastic material that is perfectly suited for the production of tarpaulins for vehicle covers, industrial structures (such as sheds and warehouses) and sports facilities. In the latter case, pvc tarpaulins are applied to pressostatic balloons that cover tennis courts and soccer fields.

This type of roofing can be single-membrane, double-membrane or triple-membrane, depending on the layers of fabric applied to the underlying structure.

The advantages of pressostatic balloons include several aspects, starting with the material used, which is very flexible, durable and can protect spaces from weather and sunlight, making it safe and waterproof.

Not to mention that PVC tarpaulins have a very low cost, as well as being easy to install and remove, and can also easily be customized to specific requests.

But the field of choice for pressostatic structures concerns spaces used for sports and leisure: sports can be attributed more than 70 percent of all the average air-supported structures built, including tennis courts, soccer fields, volleyball courts, basketball courts, swimming pools, riding arenas, bowling alleys, skating rinks, and school gyms.

This is the case with the airdome made in cooperation with the Finnish company AABA for the city of Helsinkiy, where Canobbio Textile made a cover the size of 60.50 x 89 meters covering the winter playing field of the Helsingin Jalkapalloklubiof the city that plays in the Finnish premier league.

As well as of the airdome made in collaboration with general contractor OY POLARHALL-SCANDINAVIAN AV for the city of Piteå in Sweden, where Canobbio Textile made a cover measuring 115×75 meters in width to winter soccer field roofing of the city’s women’s team, which plays in the Swedish premier league.

Permanent pressure balloons are made with the ENERGY-P ADVANTAGE innovative technology, developed in recent years, which consists of two completely detached 40-cm membranes.

Comparing the three types (Single Membrane, Double Membrane and Energy) under the same climatic conditions, it turns out that DM saves 11% compared with MS while the Energy solution saves 20%.

In addition to the two completely detached membranes, a inner membrane with a special treatment that has a dual function: the membrane allows in the winter season to conserve heat from the roof, having less heat loss and significant energy savings, while in the summer months reduces radiation and the resulting internal overheating.

The reasons for the success of padel and the speed with which it is spreading around the world lie in its playability characteristics for all age groups and regardless of gender. Padel can really be practiced by everyone and also, a not insignificant component, requires minimal expense.

What are the origins of padel and how did it expand?

That the birth of padel can be attributed to the inventiveness of Mexican millionaire Enrique Corcuera no one has any doubts today.

In 1969 the Acapulco businessman, passionate about racket sports such as “frontón” and “tennis.” adapted a space outside his house to play, making masonry walls and wire mesh to prevent the thick vegetation attached to the house from encroaching on the field and, at the same time, preventing the ball from ending up on the neighbor’s property. Today, one can recognize this “home” facility of the time as the precursor to a real padel court.

The entrepreneur said it turned out to be fun to see that when the ball crossed the defensive line and bounced into the back wall, players would literally wait for the rebound to continue playing. This, in time, originated the new game somewhere between squash and tennis, which we now call paddle, padel or padel tennis.

Corcuera thus became, unknowingly, the father of the sport, which in a very short time went outside Mexican borders to find strong expansion first in Spain, then in Argentina in the 1980s, and finally in America, Brazil, and in recent years in Europe as well.

We mentioned that Italy, too, is now at the forefront of the success of this sport that really succeeds in uniting and bringing people together, assisted also by the possibility of being able to practice it in a limited space. The first Italian Padel Game Federation was founded in February 1991 by a few enthusiasts who had the intent to promote padel in our country. The activity was so successful that several other sports associations also joined the cause and promoted paddle with C.O.N.I. regulations.

The first Italian padel champion was Gianluca Baldi, a member of the Bologna Padel Sports Association. Italy also participated in the Spain ’92 World Cup, achieving eighth place in the men’s field.

In 1994, the first padel court that could be dismantled and therefore transported anywhere was inaugurated and installed at a famous tennis club on the Riviera Romagnola. Also in the same year, Italy participated in the final stage of the Padel World Cup in Argentina, obtaining ninth place. But the first real big success for Italy came in 2001, when they became vice European champions in Sabadell, Spain, winning against Austria, Belgium and France.

Paddle gained final recognition from the C.O.N.I. in 2008, which included it within the framework of the Italian Tennis Federation.

To date, there are at least 12 million players worldwide distributed in 78 countries, although there are only 34 National Federations recognized by the International Padel Federation and, therefore, the road to admission to the Olympic Games still seems long. However, the numbers provide us with excellent growth prospects for a sport that is truly open to all without any distinction between professionals and amateurs.

“An employment that lasted six months and took a team of 12 workers to live in Cameroon for the necessary period to complete the work.
